WHAT'S IN THE BAGS

We do three different sizes of organic bag: standard, large and very large; and you can have vegetable bags and fruit bags. The vegetable bags can be ordered with and without potatoes; we also have a bag containing UK produce only; and finally, we do a bag which is mostly vegetables, but contains about £1.50 of fruit.

small veg & a little fruit £9.00
UK-only produced veg £9.00
standard veg (1kg potatoes) £9.00
standard veg (no potatoes) £9.00
large veg (1.8kg potatoes) £11.00
large veg (no potatoes) £11.00
very large veg (1.8kg potatoes) £13.00
very large veg (no potatoes) £13.00
standard fruit £9.00
large fruit £11.00

Many customers take more than one bag and we are happy to offer a discount of £1.50 on any additional bags taken. For example, if you order an A and a K box, it will cost you £16.50; if you order B, E and Q, the charge will be £28.

BUYING POLICY:
Throughout the year we aim to bring you a range of quality, organically grown fruit and vegetable, sourced from a number of different suppliers across the region. When choosing vegetables and fruit for the bags we aim to select quality produce that represents good value - we choose seasonal British and European crops where these are available and we are keen to keep the food miles incurred in the transportation of produce to a minimum. Often the vegetable bags will contain a high proportion of UK grown produce sourced from a grower in Yorkshire. We value this close relationship with growers and recognise that this is how Organic Bag Schemes can work at their best to support the growth of organic farming in Britain.  Of course, if you prefer, you may choose to have only British-grown produce in your bag by choosing the G bag.

BAG CONTENTS:
Our standard vegetable bags typically contain 6 or 7 items; the fruit bag 5 or 6 items. The large bags have an extra 2 items added to them (we don't simply bulk out the standard bags); similarly, the very large bags have two more items added. The bags contain staples, which you will receive every week: the vegetable bags include potatoes, carrots and onions; the fruit bags include apples and bananas and usually oranges. The rest of the bag is made up of seasonable produce.

A typical standard vegetable (A) bag might contain the following:

potatoes 1 Kg
carrots 400g
onions 350g
red pepper 1
lettuce 1
courgettes 400g
tomatoes 250g

The potato-less (B) bag might have 400g of runner beans instead of the potatoes. The large bags may have an aubergine and a head of broccoli added to them.

A typical standard fruit (K) bag might contain the following:

apples 800g
bananas 500g
plums 400g
melon 1
avocado 1

The large fruit (Q) bag may have 2 lemons and 4 peaches added to them.

UNUSUAL ITEMS IN YOUR BAG:
Occasionally your bag may contain an unusual item of veg that you may find difficulty in identifying. We try to remember to pop an explanatory leaflet in the bag with some cooking tips and maybe a recipe or two. Please follow the link for a list.
