EASTER
Although there are lots of bank holidays coming up, all deliveries should be going out as usual and that includes Good Friday and the Friday of the royal wedding. After a bank holiday Monday, Tuesday’s boxes may arrive a little later than usual.
The shop will close at 6pm on Good Friday, open as usual on Saturday but is closed on Easter Sunday and the bank holiday Monday. On the royal wedding day of Friday 29th the shop will again close at 6pm, will open as usual on Saturday and Sunday, but close for the May Day bank holiday on Monday.
This week’s potato is ‘Cosmos’. Nestled in your box you should find some new season Egyptian garlic. The cucumbers and greens are Yorkshire grown, the celery and courgettes are from Spain and large boxes have local cauliflowers. Large no-potatoes boxes have some local spinach. Thanks to some lovely sunshine the English asparagus season is off to a flying start. We’re hoping to get enough for the boxes in the next week or so but if you want to be sure of some please ring and we’ll send you some as a side order. The price should be around £2.90 for a 250g bunch.
Carrot and Apple Chutney
A delicious, richly flavoured and spicy chutney and a great way of using up last season’s apples and carrots. It’s really easy to make too ...
Simply simmer all the ingredients in a pan for about 45 minutes or until the mixture is the right consistency. You should end up with enough for 3 smallish jars (350g size) which need to be sterilised with boiling water or in a low oven before filling. The chutney will improve if it’s left to mature for a few weeks.
(Stylish hexagonal glass jars with lids can be purchased from the shop. Phone the shop to have them added to your order next week. ed.)
