Everything that Beanies sells is
strictly vegetarian or vegan. We also have a range of products for people
with dietary problems. Have a look at our
stocklist for a more
detailed list.
Organic Certification
As Sheffield's first Soil Association approved
grocer we have access to some of the UK's best growers. Soil Association approval means we are able to sell organic fruit and vegetables loose, i.e. not pre-packed. It also allows us to bag organic wholefoods we buy in bulk. Our Soil Association number is R1731.
Fruit and Vegetables
Beanies sells both organic and non-organic fruit and vegetables, providing the fullest possible range of seasonable produce. We try to buy British (and local) when we can:
- Fresh herbs (e.g. basil, tarragon, coriander, chives, parsley). The herbs are
delivered on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Organic sprouting beans and seeds (e.g. mung beans, alfalfa seeds, sunflower seeds, chick
peas)
- Ginger, chillies and garlic
- We typically stock a number of different varieties of a particular fruit or vegetable. For
example, in the tomato section we sell can plum, beef, vine, cherry (loose and in punnets), as well as more unusual varieties when we can get them; we always have three or four varieties of apples and potatoes.
We also sell many unusual and exotic fresh produce, for example:
- Honey mangoes
- Wild mushrooms
- Passion fruit and Sharon fruit
- Okra and tamarind
The non-organic produce is restocked daily (Monday to Saturday) from the wholesale market in Parkway.
We have four suppliers of organic fruit and vegetables, and have six or seven
deliveries per week. The main deliveries are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a smaller delivery on Mondays.
Wholefoods
We sell an extensive range of organic and
non-organic wholefoods. Some of these we buy in bulk and bag ourselves;
some we buy from ethical companies such as Essential Trading, Suma and Clearspring.
- Dried herbs and spices, including some speciality varieties
- Large range of wholewheat and white pastas, including wheat-free pasta
- Non-dairy milk
