Happy New Year!
This week's purple sprouting broccoli and cauliflowers are Yorkshire grown; It's great to have these at a time of year when we can be struggling for decent greens, but I do have one reservation about winter purple sprouting which is it can be a little tough compared to the faster growing spring shoots. It can help if you trim or peel the base of each shoot before cooking but I've also found that they're excellent in blended soups being full of colour and flavour. Most of the lettuces are French now, but we have a few from our own field in Sheffield, again enjoying the mild spell. The Lancashire golden beetroot has proved popular in the shop this year; tasty but also a little less messy than the red.
